This day at Teahupoo- Aug 27th 2011 during the Billabong Pro waiting period is what many are calling the biggest and gnarliest Teahupoo ever ridden. Chris Bryan was fortunate enough to be there working for Billabong on a day that will go down in the history of big wave surfing. The French Navy labeled this day a double code red prohibiting and threatening to arrest anyone that entered the water.
Kelly Slater described the day by saying "witnessing this was a draining feeling being terrified for other people's lives all day long, it's life or death. Letting go of that rope one time can change your life and not many people will ever experience that in their life."
All images where shot by Chris Bryan using the Phantom HD Gold camera. To see more of Chris' work check out his website. WWW.CHRISBRYANFILMS.COM

Worth rationing my use of the overworked word 'stunning' so I can save it for rare gems like this. And not just stunning but gobsmacking.
As someone who has barely managed to stand up on a surfboard, I am in awe.
And I don't usually like slo-mo but it really works here.
iraamerson on 13th Jan 2012 at 15:41
Aside from wanting to ice pick my hear holes that was sick!
miturner on 13th Jan 2012 at 15:44
Spiritual, sick, insane......the best surf video I have EVER seen!!!!! Brilliant.
spiritfish on 13th Jan 2012 at 17:36
I do not bandy terms like "emotional", "spectacular", "awe inspiring" too often...as a matter of fact, I seldom use the word "bandy" for that matter. This film is "singular", absoulutely captivating...if the famous surf spot on Maui...Peahi is called "Jaws", then this place...this reef in Tahiti known as Teahupoo is the "Bowels" of the surfworld. It is the place where you go after you have been swallowed...7 minutes or so of raw, raging, unforgiving power and majesty.

I've never seen a video that captures the power and beauty of waves and surfing quite like this!

I don't think I have ever seen anything as amazing as this video. My heart is pounding, I don't think I blinked once, and the music used just mirrors the power shown here. Thank-you Karin for putting me on to this... I am without words.
eddiea on 15th Jan 2012 at 15:31

You quickly run out of adjectives watching stuff like this. What can I say? Speechless. Anyone know what the music used is? That was a big part of the experience for me!
stevefleck on 15th Jan 2012 at 18:36
Music listed. Thx. Figured it out!

IM-PRE-SIO-NAN-TE.
QUE HERMOSO ES EL MAR Y COMO AÚN DANDO MIEDO SON BELLÍSIMAS LAS OLAS.
SIN DUDA HAY QUE TENER LOS HUEVOS MUY GRANDES PARA INTENTAR CORRER UNA OLA DE ESAS.

LA CALIDAD DEL FILM-MAKER ES LO MEJOR QUE HE VISTO. FELICITACIONES!!!

Surf:
It is the pleasure of watching the slow rise of the sun rising.
They are clean waves with their crests raised by the wind, earthy.
It is the cold sand under your feet, the lonely cry of a gull across the silence in a big day.
It's a powerful storm surge with waves that have lost their innocence is to share the silence of a world without words ...

Wow, What an adrenaline rush it must be to be in the middle of a wave like that! How do they stay on the board? How long do you need to hold your breath till you emerge? Truely Magnificent photography and music!

Mental swell but isn't anyone else bored of the over-used Phantom slow-motion footage you see everywhere these days? Think action sports equivalent of 3D cinema.
isikmater on 21st Jan 2012 at 11:23
Spectacular, amazing, brilliant not enough words to describe the awesomeness of this video. But please keep using this music with the video because it really makes the it more powerful. The other music didn't make the same effect on me.
